Probably one of the best hotels in Sri Lanka -- situated in the old fort area of Galle you felt that you were stepping back in time to a more gracious era.

Staying in an Aman property is like no other hotel experience. From the cold towels offered and cool fruit drink when you step onto the verandah, to my 3 MUSTS!! when traveling, Hot water, big towels, and big robes for men

Why customer like this hotel

Amazing History
The charmed grounds of Amangalla are spread across nearly 9,000 square metres on the peninsula, defined by the 400-year-old fort. The resort’s mature garden dates back to the building’s construction in the 1860s, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Galle Fort is the best preserved colonial fortification in Asia. The peninsula offers boundless opportunities for discovery, as does the surrounding city, countryside and ocean, from temples and tea plantations to blue whale watching

This is a beautifully restored colonial building, retaining the charm of yesteryear with many period features. This is not the typical design led Aman property but none the less provides all the comforts you would expect. The common areas are lovely especially the main Veranda for breakfast, formal afternoon tea or diner

This glorious colonial establishment is a calm and welcoming retreat. Excellent service, beautifully appointed rooms and a gracious charm are the hallmarks of this lovely hotel. Situated within Galle Fort, it occupies a terrific location and has a lovely pool, and a delicious tropical backdrop with monkeys and birds adding to the charm.

  • Food

We stayed at this hotel over the New Year period, is a beautiful old colonial building. The service was excellent but I feel it was let down by the quality of the food. It was a set price for New Year's Eve £100 per person (overpriced) and I must say I ate better in the fort for far far less

We went to Amangalla only for dinner, which was recommended by the manager of our hotel (we were staying in Tamarind Hills). The place did not have much of options for vegetarians, however, the chef made a delectable vegetarian spaghetti for us. The bread was warm and mushroom salad had the most flavorful oyster mushrooms that I have ever tasted
